gf_degree

Degree of a finite field over its prime subfield

Syntax

n = gf_degree(F)

Arguments

F: A field created by gf_create_field.
n: The degree n of GF(p^n) over GF(p). It is also the degree of the field's primitive polynomial and the number of coefficients of each element.

Description

gf_degree(F) returns n for the field GF(p^n).

Examples

F = gf_create_field(3, 2);
gf_degree(F)   // 2
